Writing for an international organization requires a bit of savviness. Maintain editorial/corporate guidelines in the writing, along with a conversational tone. Respect leadership's ever-changing schedules, yet meet deadlines. Know when to accept the interviewee's comments and when to (gently) push back in order to obtain the content requested by the editor. And, don't bug the editor: he hires me to finish projects, not to involve him with every step.

I've been writing for this company for a few years now through its corporat communications department, and the editor couldn't make it any easier. Via e-mail, he asks if I'm available (I always say yes) and then sends the assignment.

Since we have a good working relationship, I handle every step of the project for him. I conduct the interviews, write the drafts, make edits, obtain approvals, get photos, and send one complete package to the editor. If he needs anything, he lets me know. Often, I don't hear anything until the next assignment other than receiving my check in the mail.
